Selim Talukder, Shahjadpur:
A nine-month-old infant, Halima Khatun, died on Monday morning after being struck by a stick allegedly wielded by her father in Char Dugali village under Gala Union of Shahjadpur Upazila in Sirajganj.

The accused, Abdul Alim Pramanik, son of Moksed Pramanik of Char Dugali, had married Fazila Khatun—daughter of rickshaw puller Fazar Ali from Dargahar Char village in Habibullah Nagar Union—three years ago. This was Alim's second marriage.
According to the child’s mother, Fazila Khatun, Alim subjected her to continuous domestic abuse following their marriage. On Monday morning, Alim attempted to hit Fazila with a wooden stick during an altercation. The blow missed its intended target and struck baby Halima, who was in her mother’s arms. The infant died on the spot.
Fazila subsequently rushed the child to a medical doctor, who formally pronounced her dead.
Addressing the incident, Md. Saiful Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Shahjadpur Police Station, stated that law enforcement officers recovered the infant's body upon receiving the report and dispatched it to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the fleeing father, Abdul Alim.
